Pouring Wax
This is me pouring wax into a metal tube to make a candle. I took home a candle that someone else made but it was pink and that was fine with me. The teacher who was helping me was really nice. It was really fun!
Listening to Instructions
In this picture, the other teacher is showing metal that pioneers would use to make candle holders out of. We tin-smithed out of a metal called Punching Metal. The teacher told us about tin-smithing and how the pioneers did it. That, I think was the most fun thing on the whole trip!

Making Candles
On our trip we made candles. We poured wax into a candle making tube. Then you wait until they are dry. But we did not get to take our candles home because ours were not dry. So we got to take another class's home.

I liked going into the little house. the background for my picture was a whole bunch of trees. I thought it was funny when Lucas wore a dress. I liked it when I dressed up.

At Gould Lake
On Monday January 18th, 2010, we went to Gould Lake. On the bus to Gould Lake, I was kind of squashed until I got there. They were talking to us about animal foot prints in the snow. I found a lot of foot prints in the snow. We worked in the snow to make a fireplace. We came back from the picnic for lunch. We had to hike there and back. We went skiing or tobogganing on crazy carpets.

Gould Lake
The grade 5/6 class went to Gould Lake. In my group was April, Vanessa, Wyatt and me. We made a fire. I found out that lighters are hard to use. I asked if I could use a match but the guys didn't have any. After we got the fire going, we ate hot dogs and a S'more.
I didn't like skiing. We saw a whole bunch of deer tracks. It was fun!

Gould Lake Trip
On Monday January 18, 2010, we went to Gould Lake We went with the grade fives and sixes to Gould Lake. When we got to school we went on a bus. We were on the bus for about 15 to 20 minutes. When we got to the conservation area, we got off the bus and went into the barn. Grade sixes went into one room and the grade fives went into another room.
We learned about Animal tracks and about how to make a fire. It was pretty interesting. I learned that if you are ever lost in the woods and it’s cold out side you can make a fire by white bark, twigs that are the size of a toothpick, and sticks that are as round as your pencil and as tall as your pencil. Next, light the white bark on fire. When you light it, There will be black smoke coming from the white bark. You wait till the black smoke has disappeared. Finally you can make your hot dogs or marshmallows over your fire. I learned a lot more.
After that we went on a hike. I think we walked for about an hour! When we finally came to our eating spot, we made our fire and ate our lunch. I didn’t know how to use a lighter. It was really hard! Then we hiked back and that took about one hour. We finally made it back to the barn.
One really interesting thing was that before Gould Lake was a conservation area a farmer lived there. He had cows, horses, chickens and a whole bunch of other animals. That was the most interesting. When we got back to the barn we went skiing and tobogganing on crazy carpets. I kept falling when we went skiing because cross-country skis were the hardest skis I have ever been on. Then we had to leave to come back to school. My legs were hurting so badly because of all the walking I did at Gould Lake.

Pioneer Clothes
This is me dressed in what the pioneers used to wear. They didn't have the same clothes as we do now, but they had clothes, and that is good. We have different clothes now and I am glad because they would probably be cold in the winter.

Dressing Up
Mr. Eastman took a black and white picture of Alyssa and me so it would look like a picture in the olden days. Back then they had no coloured pictures. We also dressed up like pioneers.

Here I am holding two candles. It is weird that two candles are in one. Pioneers used string and dipped it in wax to make a candle. It takes pioneers one whole day to make one candle.

Introduction
December Trip
On December 17, 2009 we went to the movie theater and the bowling alley. First we went to the bowling alley and we played two games. I had 82 points in the first game and 70 points in the second game. I had so much fun at the bowling alley! I was on a team of three. There were three girls and two boys. The girls' names were Vanessa, April, Gina and the boys' names were Wyatt and Cameron.
After that we went to the movie theater to see "A Christmas Carol". I loved it! There were a couple of scary parts but we got through it - like when the ghost jumped out of the door! And when another ghost jumped out from a door inside the house and threw chains with cement blocks on the end!
It was a fun day at the movie theater and the bowling alley.

Using Rope and Poles to make Forces

A couple of days ago, one of our former teachers, Mrs. Smith, was teaching us about forces and pulleys. We attached a rope to a plastic pole and we put our strength to the test! We had somebody pulling the rope and two (or more) people pulling the poles. The person pulling the rope had an easier job. He had mechanical advantage.
Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Dressel tried it. Cody pulled the rope and made them move!

Castle Presentation

This is me presenting my castle to the grade 2/3 class. My castle is built in the 1300's. You can see the drawbridge and if you look closely in my castle you can see the tiny cross that would be the church and you can see the towers. The grade 2/3 class came to see our castle projects. I put sand on my castle and it was made of card board.

The Head Table!!!!!

This is a picture of the head table in our gym for our Medieval Feast. At the feast I was the King and beside me on the right is the Lord and on the left is the Queen and on her left is the Lady. Beside the Lord are the two Pages that would serve us. In front is the salt. They say that if you are above the salt you are powerful.

At the Medieval Feast

The medieval feast
by Joey
I was a page at the medieval feast. I handed out food to the king, queen, Lord and lady. They were at the head table because they were the most important! Then Emma and I sat at the head table. We ate chicken, vegetables and fruit. We drank apple juice but we pretended it was ale ( ale is beer). There was music playing while we ate! The head table was dressed up fancy. The medieval feast was truly so cool!
In the Stocks

Feast
On Thursday December 17th 2009 our grade 4 class had the fun medieval feast. This is me in a wooden cage with my hand hanging down and head hanging in with my dress on. People were put in the stocks because they were bad. I wasn’t bad. I just wanted to go in there. Our whole class had so much fun.

Jousting
On December 17 2009 we had a medieval feast. This is me and Jessica jousting. We had to stand on the bench but Mrs. Dressel and Mrs. Smith put the bench upside down. We had to keep our balance. If the other person knocked the foam noodle out of your hand you were out. We ate first then jousted.

JOUSTING
This is me and Jeremy jousting with foam noodles at the medieval feast. At the medieval feast you had to dress up and everything. I was a serf so I dressed up as a serf. Jeremy was a knight so he dressed up as a knight. So what we did was we took a bench and tipped it upside down and then two people would stand on it. Then who ever fell off the person behind him would come on. The person still standing on the bench would joust that person.

Science
This is a photo of an experiment we did in science class. All you do is take 2 poles, wrap a rope around it and pull. It takes 3 people! It’s really hard to hold on without moving when the rope is being pulled! We used a block and tackle pulley. The person that is pulling the rope is more likely to be able to pull the people with the poles. We did this to show how pulleys and mechanical advantages work.

THE FEAST
On Thursday December 17, 2009, our class was doing jousting. This is a picture of Mrs Croth and Evelyn jousting against each other. At the end of the jousting fight, Mrs Croth won the battle. Evelyn lost some of the jousts by losing her balance. Our whole class had so much fun at the feast!
