Basketball Dodgeball

The grade 4/5 class is playing a game called Basketball Dodgeball and this is how you play. You make even teams. If you get hit with a dodgeball, you have to go to the other side/jail/wall. If one of your team mates can hit the backboard from half court or you can go on their side and get a ball in the basket, then everyone gets out of jail.

In gym class sometimes we play a game called basketball dodgeball. It is a game similar to dodgeball but you can only get out of jail by someone hitting the backboard on their side or getting a basket from anywhere but the jails. Or you can get out by the ball directly coming to you without it hitting the floor or bouncing off the wall.
We play that you can only get out if you get hit below the waist so nobody gets hurt. All the kids like this game except Jessica, my best friend. I love basketball dodgeball. Gym RULES!

At the Gym!!!!

At gym we had to do four laps around the gym and sit on the outside of the circle. Then Mr. Lloyd came in and divided us into different groups - people that were wearing red into one corner and girls that were not wearing red to the other corner. Then we ran around the gym when Mr. Lloyd called our group.
Then we played basketball dodgeball. Here are the rules. You want more than one person out of jail, you go running to the net and try to get a basket without getting hit or missing the net.

Today we played dodgeball. If you are on the other line and you throw a ball at the backboard, you get the prisoners out. They come back to your side and throw the ball at the other team. People have to get the people on the other side. If the ball hits below your waist, you go to the other side. If the teacher says "jailbreak", all of the prisoners are free. It is a lot of fun but remember to play by our rules.

I played basketball dodgeball and this is how you play. You need two basketball nets. If you get hit below the waist, you will go to jail. There are 3 ways to get out of jail. You will have to throw the ball to your team mate that is in jail and he has to catch it before it hits the ground.
The next way to get out of jail gets everyone out of jail. You will have to go to the other side and score a ball in the hoop. If you do, everybody is out of jail. There is another way too to get everybody out of jail. You will have to stay on your side and hit the backboard. If somebody calls "jailbreak", you will be free from jail.

Good vibrations!

Sound Science

Science

When we plucked the elastic band, it vibrated. When we used a tuning fork, we touched the plastic and the salt was moving. When the tuning fork hit the salt, it vibrated. The tuning fork vibrated the salt and it looked like it jumped. It was funny! It was fun. I liked it.

Sound Science

A couple of weeks ago, our grade four class learned about sound and vibrations. We've learned how to make a sound using a tuning fork, salt, plastic wrap and a plastic bowl.
We put plastic wrap over the top of the bowl and made it a little tight. We poured a little salt on the plastic wrap then tapped the tuning fork and put it gently on the plastic wrap. The salt bounced up and down.

The Three Gym Experiments for Science

We first got elastics and plucked our finger on them. They made vibrations and sounds.
Then we got a bowl and some water with a tuning fork. We banged the tuning fork on the ground and it made a sound. Then we put the tuning fork in the water. There were ripples in the water.
Then we got some plastic wrap and put it over the bowl and put some salt on the plastic wrap. Then we hit the tuning fork on the floor and touched the plastic wrap. The salt bounced.

Basketball Dodgeball

In gym we played basketball dodgeball. You had to throw a dodgeball at the other team and hit someone. They're in jail and if one of a whole bunch are in jail and you hit the back board or run up and score, everybody on your team is out of jail. On Thursday, I scored from half court then on Friday, Riley scored from half court!

Symphony

On Wednesday February 17th, 2010, we went to a symphony concert to listen to music. These are some of the different instruments: harp, flute, French Horn, bassoon, piccolo, glockenspiel, oboe, tuba, violin, cello, double bass, clarinet and triangle. There were a lot of instruments!
The harp was my favourite because it made a beautiful sound.
We saw our old vice principal Mrs. Thompson. We had FUN!

The Symphony Trip

The grade 4/5 class went to the symphony. It was fun! We saw Mrs. Thompson!
At first, we had to sing "O Canada". Then we sang it again but in French.
Mrs. Dressel said we were the best class there and we earned gym on Friday!
We had to partner up so I partnered up with Emma.

Yesterday we went to the Kingston Symphony. We sang "O Canada" in French and English. We learned the names of the families of instruments. The violins played my favourite song "Fireflies by Owl City."

On Wednesday February 17th, 2010, our class went to the symphony and we were listening to beautiful music. Our class had so much fun listening to the instruments like the violin and the harp.
It was a very big theatre too. I wish I could go back to the symphony because I love music.

Trip to the Kingston Symphony

A couple of days ago, our class went to the Grand Theatre to watch the symphony. We had to go up stairs and then we went through some doors and then sat on some seats. They were very comfy!
First, the conductor introduced us to the groups of instruments. The songs were soothing. We enjoyed it. You could not hear the harp. It was very quiet.

Basketball Dodgeball

This is a game called basketball dodgeball. We have been playing it lately in gym and we will tell you how to play it.
First you have to divide the gym in half and you have to make even teams. If you hit someone with a ball, they have to go to jail. If one of your team mates are in jail, you can try to hit the backboard or throw a ball in the basket by running up and scoring. Or, you can throw the ball to one of your team mates and if they catch it, they go back to their side.
If your teacher calls "JAIL BREAK!", everyone gets out of jail.
The team that has no one left loses and that is how you play.

Today we played basketball dodgeball in the gym. The rules are - if you get hit below the waist, you go to jail. You would have to stay behind the green line. If someone came and got a basket without getting hit, everyone would be free. If you throw a ball from the half line and hit the back board, everyone would be free.
There are two teams and they would have to stay on their side of the gym.

In gym, we are learning how to play basketball dodgeball. For basketball dodgeball, you have to hit other people with the ball. If the other team hits you, you go to jail and you can come out if you catch the ball if someone on your team throws the ball. There are two teams.
